We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic teaching assistant from September 2023.

Wimbledon Common Prep School (WCPS) is a pre-preparatory school for 175 boys aged 4-7 years. We provide a well-structured education that aims to instil a love of learning in a friendly, welcoming, and attractive environment.

The School was founded in 1919 as a preparatory school for King's College School (KCS) and other public schools. The premises were originally in Wimbledon High Street but in 1957 the then owner acquired the current building on the Ridgway, opposite King’s, where the school is now situated in a lovely building with a large playground area surrounded by trees near Wimbledon Village and the Common. The School remained in the hands of the Turner family until June 2006 when it was purchased by King’s. WCPS has an excellent reputation and feeds pupils through to King’s and many other respected schools.

This is a term-time position based on a 35 hour working week during term time (c34 weeks per year) plus one or two days at the beginning/end of each term. Working hours are Monday to Friday 8.15am to 3.45pm with half an hour for lunch.

The main role of the EYFS or KS1 teaching assistant is to assist the teacher, predominantly working with small groups of pupils under the supervision of the teacher, including challenging the more able and supporting the less able.

Duties include:

· Carrying out specific work tasks allocated by the teacher, including making and preparing materials for lessons

· Supporting individual pupils when they may have difficulty understanding a particular piece of work

· Hearing pupils read as designated by classroom teacher

· Helping with the creation of displays

· Helping to clear away – wash paint pots etc.

· Assisting pupils who are unwell and providing comfort and care for minor accidents

· Participating in record-keeping and pupil assessments including EYFS electronic profiling using iPads

· Playground duty - helping to supervise the safety and well-being of pupils in the playground

· Administering first aid for minor injuries

· Working with pupils across the year group in the outdoor classroom one afternoon a week

· Attending school functions where required

· Taking part in INSET training prior to school terms

Person Specification

· NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Childcare required

· Good numeracy and literacy skills are essential, with previous experience of working with children an advantage

· The ability to work well as part of a team within WCPS

· A friendly, professional, and approachable manner with colleagues, pupils and parents

· Understanding the requirement to maintain confidentiality between colleagues, pupils and parents

· Previous experience in EYFS or KS1 desirable

· Competent IT skills
