Rossall School is more than just a school; it is an exciting place to work, learn and grow. If you would relish the opportunity to be a part of something special then we would be delighted to receive an application from you.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Head of Academic Music and Director of Chapel Music with the ability to ensure that the Chapel Choir(s) continue to develop its reputation. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding musician to provide inspiration to pupils, to develop their confidence and skill in the performing arts and to contribute to the rich musical life of the school.

The successful applicant will be able to teach Music up to A Level standard. Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate would be preferable, though not essential.

In 2020, Rossall launched its International Piano Academy and became one of a small number of All-Steinway Schools within the UK. The Academy is directed by Adam Dobson who trained at the Royal College of Music and has worked as a music director in the West End and Europe. Last year, Rossall’s International Piano Competition attracted over a hundred entrants from twenty five different countries and it is fast becoming an annual fixture on the classical music scene. Associate Professor Martin Roscoe is one of the UK’s foremost pianists and has an exceptional reputation as an exciting recitalist and prolific recording artist. Other staff within the music department trained at some of the UK’s leading conservatoires including the Royal Northern College of Music and the Birmingham Conservatoire of Music. This year, the internationally acclaimed concert pianist Kathryn Stott joins us as an associate professor.

The School Chapel Choir is conducted by Joseph Judge who is also Chorus Master of the Leeds Philharmonic Chorus and a Hallé Associate Artist. In recent years the Choir has undertaken residencies at Westminster Abbey, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and Chester Cathedral. The choral tradition here at Rossall is well-established and the mighty Harrison and Harrison Organ is currently undergoing a full restoration as it approaches its centenary. Rossall’s Signature Recital Series, launched in September 2021, brings some of the UK’s top performers to the School and helps ensure that Rossall continues to be a centre of excellence for the performing arts in the North West. With Manchester and Liverpool just an hour away, our students are within easy access to some of the finest professional ensembles within the UK. For anyone interested in pursuing a career in performance. Regular lunchtime concerts are a feature of life here at Rossall. Music Theatre is a much loved aspect of our performing arts offering. Recently, students have put on a production of West Side Story and performed on stage with the West End legend, Rob Houchen. Rehearsals are now under way for Chicago.
