Hallfield School

Hallfield is a leading co-educational day preparatory school for 558 children aged between 3 months and 13 years. Set in a 20-acre campus in leafy Edgbaston, just two miles from the centre of Birmingham, Hallfield is a Christian School (Church of England) which actively welcomes children from all faiths.

Since 1879, Hallfield School has offered an exceptional education for boys (and since 1995, boys and girls) which makes it the leading preparatory school in the Midlands and possibly the country. It is now a flourishing and highly successful co-educational day school.

However, the success of a school should not be judged simply on academic results. To the contrary, the School has always nurtured a strong hidden curriculum which cannot be measured by league tables where courtesy, manners, self-discipline and respect are valued and reinforced. It is this strong hidden curriculum which underpins everything that takes place at the School: happy children are successful children.

The School's aims are clear and concise:

To provide a safe, caring, happy and high-achieving inclusive environment based on Christian principles, whilst welcoming children of all faiths to the School.

To develop each child’s full potential in academic, social, emotional, cultural and sporting areas.

Since becoming Head Master of Hallfield in 2018, Keith Morrow has steered the School through a successful inspection in January 2019. But a Hallfield education is so much more besides academic excellence. Here at Hallfield we nurture the whole child and encourage them to become the very best versions of themselves. Our nurturing approach enables this success, and also powers the co-curricular activities, from chess to sport, that we consider central to life at Hallfield – and crucial to helping our pupils become confident, rounded individuals equipped for the next chapter of their education. We enable our pupils to give more than they ever imagined possible.

During the academic year of 2019 to 2020, 45 of the 54 Year 6 children sat the Local Authority Grammar Schools examinations and 82% were offered places, had this been their first preference. thirty-two children were offered places at either KES or KEHS and 23 scholarships were awarded to 16 children.

In February 2016, the Early Years Foundation Stage was inspected by ISI. The setting was assessed as ‘outstanding’ in all four areas of learning and, as a result, the overall effectiveness of the setting was assessed as ‘outstanding’.

There is something for everyone at Hallfield, but high standards are expected in everything the children take part in. Excellence and success are celebrated at every opportunity through Year group or School assemblies and, of course, the end of year School Prize Giving.
