After School Club Playworker

We are currently seeking to fill the position of After School Club Playworker.
The Edinburgh Academy School is looking for enthusiastic and energetic individuals to work in our After School Club (ASC). The ASC provides wraparound care for our younger children, from Nursery school age to Primary 6.
The successful candidate will be required to work 8 hours per week during term time, Monday to Thursday (3:00pm to 5:00pm), with the possible option of additional hours.
The role is available upon confirmation of PVG membership.
We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role.
- To provide high quality of care and support to the children as part of an integrated Nursery and After School Club (ASC) team
- To be responsible for the children’s care and safety from the point of collection from Nursery and Junior School to the handover to parents
- To maintain a safe and secure environment both indoors and outdoors
- To take a proactive role in setting up interesting activities for the children and to actively engage with them, helping them communicate and take part in the day to day routine of ASC
- Listen and talk to individual children, play with them, follow their interests, whilst fully respecting their rights and needs.
- Take part in role-play, do puzzles, and help children devise ways of playing with toys
- Keep things safe and reasonably tidy and pleasant for children to play
- Help provide and clear up after a light snack.
While these are the key responsibilities of the role, this is not necessarily an exhaustive list and other duties may be required to ensure the smooth running of the ASC and other events in Edinburgh Academy facilities.
- Ability to register with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)* at either support worker or practitioner level in day care of children services - Essential
- Experience of work/play with children of primary age – Essential
- Genuine enjoyment of the company of young children – Essential
- Happy to work as part of a team in order to meet the needs of the children and the ASC as a whole – Essential
- Able to respond to changes of plan where required and willing to take a flexible approach to activities - Essential
- Interest in the play and emotional needs of children aged between 5 and 11 years of age - Essential
- Awareness of what constitutes 'good quality childcare' - Essential
- Ability to provide warm and consistent care to all children attending the school - Essential
- Understanding of health and safety issues that affect the day-to-day running of childcare services - Essential
- Commitment to working within an equal opportunities framework – Essential
- Interest in planning play, arts and sports activities for children of primary age – Desirable
- Ability to understand and meet children's needs, including those of children with additional needs –Desirable
