QM is seeking an inspirational and enthusiastic Teacher of Mathematics to join our committed and friendly Maths Department.

The Maths Department is housed in a suite of rooms in the heart of the school. Each room is equipped with a data projector and extensive software and practical equipment. Each course provided has a full scheme of work, detailed lesson ideas and relevant resources. The highest quality of teaching, learning and achievement is paramount. All members of the department teach across the full age and ability range. Setting is used for Years 9-11 and class sizes are small. The department is committed, confident and proud of its achievements, but also flexible and keen to improve further. Any new member of the department can be sure of friendly and effective support from all members of the team.

Curriculum

All girls will receive 3 to 4 one-hour lessons each week in Mathematics in Years 7-11 with the same teacher. Girls also have 5 hours of Maths lessons each week in Prep VI again with the same teacher. Girls selecting a Mathematics course in the Sixth Form will receive 5 one-hour lessons each week, usually taught by two different teachers. In Years 7-8, we teach a course based firmly upon the national programme of study, making use of the Maths Progress textbook series but with an emphasis on self-assessment and student ownership of learning.

In Years 9-11, girls study for the Edexcel IGCSE qualification. In recent years the department has written its own resources and student centred assessments to support the delivery of the IGCSE course content and results have risen to a very pleasing level. More able mathematicians in Year 11 are invited to study AQA Further Mathematics Level 2 as an additional qualification. We offer Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A Level, again using Edexcel specifications. Mathematics is one of the most popular disciplines at Advanced Level at QM with around a third of the Sixth Form electing to take the course. Again, the department has written its own resources to support the course, and examination results have been very good. Some Further Mathematicians also opt to take the AEA examination.

A full-time teacher is expected to teach approximately 24 hours each week. A teacher is required to participate in a rota of cover for absent colleagues and to aim to cover departmental lessons from within the department as far as is possible and if appropriate. A part-time teacher may be required to work up to 25% more or less than the workload agreed at the time of appointment to meet the needs of the school as they arise from year to year.

All applicants must complete the school’s official application form, available via this link to our website https://queenmargarets.com/careers, providing a full career history and names and contact details for two referees. Completed application forms should be returned to: recruitment@queenmargarets.com. Interviews will be held shortly after the closing date.
