Head of Business

  • Organisation: Yarm School
  • Location: Yorkshire
  • Salary info Competitive
  • Tenure: Full-time
  • Closing Date: Friday 1 November 2024

Applications are invited for a well-qualified Head of A Level Business. Our primary need is A level Business teaching and the leadership of the subject. This is a full-time position and the successful candidate would join us in September 2025.

We seek to appoint a full-time Head of A level Business. Applications are invited from well-qualified and dynamic teachers with the vision, energy and skills to contribute to the collaborative culture of the department. The ability to offer some A level Economics teaching would provide useful flexibility but is not essential. The successful candidate will join a strong, mutually supportive department. They will be an exceptional teacher and must be exemplary in carrying out their professional responsibilities. Aside from a passion for teaching Business, candidates should be keen to contribute to the broader life of the school through cultural, sporting or other extra-curricular activities. This is an expectation for all teachers at the school.

Currently there is a team of three subject specialists within the Economics and Business department (two full-time and one part-time). The advertised position arises due to a retirement and in response to increased demand for our A level courses, reflecting the growing profile of the department and successful examination results. We follow the OCR Business A level syllabus (and AQA Economics A level syllabus). All colleagues contribute to the department’s wide-ranging enrichment programme: for example, Working Lunches where students have an opportunity to meet and converse with successful individuals pursuing FAME related careers; EconBus Soc (a departmental society); Grill Club (discussion beyond the Specification) and a two-term, oversubscribed Entrepreneurial Competition. Our departmental students have recently presented to the Tees Valley Business Forum on the opportunities they are given and are fabulous ambassadors for the school. We take pride in our former BUSINESS AT YARM student links, which the department has cultivated over many years, and former pupils are keen to be involved in offering presentations, as well as offering support and advice, both in person and virtually. Colleagues also offer a range of bespoke clinics to support and encourage student progress. Results in the department are strong. 69% of all Business A level entries were at A*- B last year, whilst 61% of Economics pupils achieved an A*/A grade at A level. The department has had considerable success in recent years in supporting successful applications to highly competitive courses and has also been very successful in supporting students in achieving workplace apprenticeships for prestigious business organisations. If you would like any further information about the position then please contact the Head of Economics and Business, Miss Caroline Rhodes (cer@yarmschool.org). A full job description can be downloaded from our website vacancy page.

Applications will only be accepted on the application form that can be downloaded form the School's website vacancy page. This should be completed electronically with all questions must be answered and submitted by email along with a covering letter. Applications should be e-mailed to the Headmaster, Dr Huw Williams, as soon as possible and no later than midday on Friday 1st November. The school reserves the right to interview before the closing date if appropriate to the context of the field.
