Lochinver House School
Lochinver House School is situated in a pleasant residential area on the edge of green belt land in South Hertfordshire and is conveniently placed for access to London. The heart of the school is a late Victorian house. The facilities are extensive and include a purpose built Pre-Prep Department, separate Sports Hall, Gymnasium and Theatre, Music Centre, Modern Languages and English Departments, an Information Technology room and two Science Laboratories which have recently undergone a complete refurbishment. The School has its own extensive playing fields on site. The major sports are Football, Rugby, Cricket and Athletics and all boys learn to swim whilst they are in the Junior School and have the opportunity to take part in a very wide range of sports and physical activities.
At Lochinver House we take academic success as a given. The boys work very hard, they are extremely well taught in small classes where they make excellent progress. The academic standards that our pupils achieve year on year sees them awarded Scholarships and places to some of the very top independent Schools. Equally we are very proud of the pastoral support that we give our boys. Through meeting on a daily basis in small groups as the boys progress throughout the school we are able to cover a number of sensitive issues and give the boys the support that they require both in and out of the classroom. Music, sport and drama play a significant part in every boy’s education at Lochinver; they are encouraged to think independently, to communicate effectively, to show consideration for others, to contribute to the school’s community and above all to have fun. With up to five sports teams in each age group every boy will have the opportunity to represent the School, regardless of his ability. Over 66% of the boys learn at least one musical instrument and our aim is to give all pupils the opportunity to perform and make music together, by taking part in the numerous orchestras, choirs and groups that are available. Boys are invited to participate in Drama productions, either acting or back stage and to compile a portfolio of their Art and Design Technology work, using extremely sophisticated equipment in Design Technology in particular. The School’s motto “Perstare Praestare”, ‘to persevere is to succeed’ is central to everything that we look to achieve at Lochinver. Education is changing incredibly quickly in the modern world and it is important that we keep abreast of current, good educational practice without compromising traditional values that form the bedrock of our school.
