Planning, Teaching and Learning
In collaboration with the other staff, the Teacher will plan and implement a curriculum which reflects the Aim and Core Values of the school and which strives for excellence. The role requires a dynamic approach to planning in line with curriculum objectives, as well to making and preparing resources for lessons. The teacher should motivate pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative and engaging teaching methods, whilst maintaining discipline and promoting independent learning. Using prior experience and professional knowledge, the teacher will deliver lessons and implement school trips which cater for the whole ability range within a class.
The Teacher will have full responsibility over one class and will monitor their individual needs, progress and development across the academic year. They will use knowledge and experience specific to the year group to personalise lessons and the input given to each child accordingly. The Teacher may have a Teaching Assistant for some lessons and will be responsible for planning and communicating with, and delegating to, the Teaching Assistant, according to what is required. This will include interventions, extension activities and tailored learning.
The Teacher may be required to teach lessons to other year groups on a specific subject and during a regular slot. This will involve planning lessons and communicating with the class teacher.
Assessment
Using school assessment systems and keeping ordered written records, the Teacher will be required to monitor student progress across their class and identify/assess student needs accordingly. In collaboration with the teaching staff and Head Teacher, the Teacher will seek to raise attainment and progress, plan and deliver interventions for SEN and EAL pupils and create a positive learning environment which integrates the school’s Aim and Core Values into everyday life. They will also be involved in the writing and editing of termly pupil reports for their class.
Staff Development
The Teacher should strive to uphold and constructively improve the high quality of teaching and learning at LCS. This will include regular lessons observations, peer observations and sharing of best practice. There should be an ongoing personal commitment to continuous professional development, especially in the areas of safeguarding and their specific year group. The Teacher may be required to go on relevant courses and/or school visits and to feed back to the rest of the staff team. The Teacher also has a responsibility to the whole staff team to promote staff wellbeing and moral and to communicate to the Head Teacher any concerns or suggestions, especially regarding the school action and development plans.
Pupil Development
The Teacher will play a pivotal role in the social, emotional and spiritual development of each child and should have a high concern for each child’s health, safety and wellbeing within their class. This role will involve teaching PSHE, promoting the school’s Aim and Core Values and building strong relationships with the pupils in their class. The Teacher should take responsibility for the pastoral care of each pupil, and remain informed of current social, emotional, spiritual, medical and physical needs as well as academic progress.
Parent Partnership
The Teacher should seek to develop strong, positive partnerships with the parents of pupils in their class. This will involve ‘Meet the Teacher’ afternoons, writing in the Communication Book, writing class newsletters, parent teacher meetings, Governors’ Receptions, writing termly reports, termly assemblies, Art Exhibition, Sports Day and many other opportunities to involve parents in school life. The Teacher will be expected to (where possible) attend events and meetings out of normal school hours which promote parent partnership. They will also be responsible for the careful management of parent complaints and concerns, directing them as appropriate.
General
The Teacher will be expected to attend weekly staff meetings, planning meetings and training sessions, as well as using their PPA time effectively. They will be expected to have a thorough working knowledge of school policies and be a champion of safeguarding, wellbeing and pupil development in the school. Additional responsibilities will include playground supervision and sometimes covering classes when staff are absent. The Teacher will be consulted in reviews of policies, risk assessments, school action and development plans and may be delegated action points accordingly.
