We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, passionate and well-qualified Cello Teacher to join our highly successful Music Departments at both our Sloane Square and Prep Schools. The role is for one day per week, shared between Francis Holland Sloane Square (Senior School) and Francis Holland Prep School.

Role Overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, passionate and well-qualified Cello Teacher to join our highly successful Music Departments at both our Sloane Square and Prep Schools. The role is for one day per week, shared between Francis Holland Sloane Square (Senior School) and Francis Holland Prep School. The successful candidate will deliver individual cello lessons of 30 minutes’ duration throughout the school day, and will coach at least one chamber ensemble, as well as co-lead the Preparatory String Group. There is a potential to grow the number of cello students across both schools.

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach the ‘cello to individual pupils of all ages and abilities across both the Senior and Prep Schools, delivering 30-minute lessons throughout the school day
  • Plan and deliver engaging, challenging lessons that promote excellent musicianship and musical progress
  • Monitor progress and provide clear, constructive feedback to students
  • Prepare pupils thoroughly for internal and external assessments
  • Coach a chamber ensemble, including a cello duet, and cover the Preparatory String Group; with the opportunity for the right candidate to play in and coach the Senior Orchestra
  • Work closely with the Directors of Music and the wider music team to contribute to a collaborative and high-quality music department
  • Contribute to departmental development, enrichment and the wider life of the school

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A high level of cello performance ability, ideally with a degree or diploma from a conservatoire or university music department
  • Experience teaching cello to pupils of varying ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced standard, and familiarity with ABRSM or equivalent graded examination syllabi
  • A passion for the cello and the ability to inspire enthusiasm, confidence and musical curiosity in pupils of all abilities
  • Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
  • A collaborative, reflective approach and commitment to professional learning
  • A clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and a strong commitment to pupil wellbeing
