A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and well-qualified English Teacher to join the school on a fixed term (absence cover) contract, from January 2025 to August 2025. The successful candidate will be an inspirational teacher who encourages a deep and scholarly engagement with the subject whilst focusing on excellent levels of achievement for pupils of all ages.

Taught by a highly qualified and experienced department of ten, English is a thriving subject at the school. As a department we believe in the power of great literature from across the canon to inspire our students and enrich their lives, seeking to build in them a meaningful understanding of the development of English literature through time. We also deepen and enrich that study by exposing our students to a multiplicity of perspectives and voices, reflecting the diversity of our student population and of the city in which we live. We value deep subject specialism alongside pedagogical expertise. Our students demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for the subject and there is a large take up for it in the Sixth Form across A Level English Literature, A Level English Language, and the IB Diploma.

Candidates should possess the subject knowledge and skills to teach up to A Level and IB English; prior experience of teaching the IB is not essential. Members of the department are expected to be committed to the development of English at Godolphin and Latymer, including engaging with the whole school enthusiasm for evidence-informed teaching and learning.

All staff are expected to contribute to the thriving extra-curricular programme on offer at the School.

The salary will be commensurate with the post and will depend upon qualifications and experience.

Accommodation may be available for new staff in a local six-unit property.

For further information about our school and this role, please visit www.godolphinandlatymer.com. Fully completed application forms must be returned to recruitment@godolphinandlatymer.com as soon as possible. Please note that applications must be made on the school’s application form. CVs alone will not be accepted.

Candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Interviews will be arranged on receipt of successful application. We reserve the right to close the advert once the successful applicant has been found.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The School may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants and all applicants will be required to provide details of their online profile, including social media accounts, as part of their application.

All staff working in the School during the school day will have contact with children and will therefore be in regulated activity. As a teaching member of staff you will be working directly with, and be responsible for, the children that you teach. You are also likely to have contact with other pupils on a regular basis which may include specific pastoral or other responsibilities for pupils whom you do not teach.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self-declaration form in advance of attending an interview (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children."
