As part of our transition to co-education WCPS is recruiting a part-time (2 days a week) for 6 months fixed term role as a Teacher of PE and Games with a specialism in gymnastics and dance. It is highly likely that this role will become permanent after the 6-month trial period. This role could start in September 2026 or January 2027 for the right candidate.
The successful candidate will
• Inspire and challenge able young children through planning, preparation and delivery of excellent PE and games lessons.
• Ensure that teaching, assessment and reporting meet the academic and pastoral needs of each individual child.
• Offer pastoral care and support, providing the children with a secure environment in which they can learn.
• Have the ability to build good relationships with children, parents and colleagues and demonstrate effective communication skills. Patience, flexibility, a commitment to teamwork and a sense of humour are essential attributes.
• Be willing to contribute to our extensive programme of extra-curricular activities.
Key responsibilities
• To provide a stimulating, challenging, well-organised and inspiring PE and games learning environment
• To provide PE and games lessons appropriately on as hort-term and medium-term basis, to meet the needs of all children
• To set clear, measurable targets to ensure children’s individual learning progresses
• To keep efficient tracking and progression records in all areas of the PE and games curriculum
• To report to parents on the development, attainment and progress of their child both orally and in written reports
• To deliver PE and games curriculum sessions to parents and teaching staff
• To manage behaviour through positive reinforcement and role-modelling
• Top participate in meetings as when required
• To lead, direct and communicate effectively with support staff
• To communicate and cooperate with external agencies as and when necessary
• To take responsibility for finding opportunities in which to further their professional development
• To observe, both formally and informally other teachers within the school
• To be able to work in a team, whilst also being able to use their own initiative
• To share responsibility for the development and pastoral care of all children in the school
• To demonstrate excellent organisational and time management skills
Person specification:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), Early Years Teache Status (EYFS), or equivalent
• Degree-level qualification
• Sounder understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1PE and games curriculum
Experience (Essential)
• Experience teaching or working with children
• Experience planning and delivering engaging, age appropriate PE and games lessons
• Experience of observing, assessing, and tracking pupil progress
• Experience or creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment
Desirable:
• Experience in a pre-prep or independent school setting
• Experience supporting pupils with SEND, EAL, or additional needs
• Experience working closely with teaching assistants and support staff
• Experience teaching or working with children aged 3-7
· Experience teaching gymnastics, dance and netball
