We are looking for a confident person with good communication and empathy skills to assist with lunchtime supervision in our school. 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Monday to Friday term-time only Experience of working in a school environment in a similar role would be beneficial.

The Lunch Assistant is expected generally to support the school's aims and ethos, and to support the teaching staff in providing a safe and stimulating environment, and sensitive and appropriate pastoral care.

General Duties:

  • supervise the children in the dining hall while they have their lunch, as directed by the form teachers;

  • clear up spillages and accidents;

  • supervise the children in the playground;

  • ensure that all play activities are safe and accord with playground rules;

  • provide, supervise the use of and put away playground play equipment;

  • encourage the pupils to use their playtimes creatively, actively and cooperatively;

  • closely supervise children on the adventure play areas;

  • be alert for signs of bullying, loneliness or other individual problems, and report to form teacher;

  • provide care and simple treatment for children who are unhappy or unwell, or who have suffered minor cuts or bumps;

  • alert a first-aider when children are injured or ill;

  • record accidents in the accident book, which will subsequently be seen by the welfare assistant;

  • become trained in asthma and anaphylaxis awareness;

  • undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by the Headteacher.


In addition, the Lunch Assistant is encouraged to:

  • attend school activities such as Fetes;

  • attend training courses, paid for by the school, which will enhance expertise and awareness of issues related to the post of Lunch Assistant.
