An outstanding classroom practitioner, the successful candidate will inspire pupils with their passion for Design & Technology. If you have a real passion for teaching and learning, then our inspirational teaching team at King Henry VIII School is looking for a colleague to join the DT department—which has secured VEX Robotics Competition national titles four years in a row. Your dynamic and creative approach will help encourage and inspire our students across Key Stage 3 and 4 (and possibly Key Stage 5 for the right candidate).

King Henry VIII School (as part of the Coventry School Foundation) provides a forward-thinking and contemporary education for boys and girls across the whole West Midlands region. Located within a stone’s throw of Coventry railway station, King Henry’s has a diverse school community and is committed to inclusive recruitment and inclusion in the workplace.

Our school aims, both in and out of the classroom, are clear:

· To celebrate our diverse and inclusive community

· To inspire aspirational and authentic lifelong learners and leaders

· To empower courage, creativity and compassion in each student

· To nurture respectful, resilient and kind individuals

If this matches your educational vision, then this is the perfect time to join the DT department. Design & Technology, alongside other creative subjects, is one of the many strengths of the school and is a popular choice at both GCSE and A Level. Students have gone on to pursue further study and careers in engineering, product design, architecture, and related fields at leading universities and apprenticeships.

We have well-equipped specialist workshops, design studios, robotics room providing students with opportunities to develop practical skills, creativity and innovative thinking. Our GCSE and A Level results are as you would expect from an academically selective school with high aspirations for all pupils. At King Henry’s, however, we believe there is so much more to education than simply exam results. Design & Technology is a subject rooted in problem-solving and creativity, and the department places great emphasis on developing technical competence, independence, resilience and a passion for designing and making.

Teamwork plays an important role within the department: we are extremely collaborative, and we are committed to enhancing the experience of students by sharing good practice, resources and ideas. We are looking for a well-qualified graduate to join this exceptional department who shares our vision, is passionate about Design & Technology, and who will bring their own individuality to this warm and supportive team.

In addition, any prospective candidate must show an active commitment to the values and expectations of our school community and to the welfare of the pupils within it. The enthusiasm to lead co-curricular activities and to further enhance the student experience beyond the classroom is an important quality of all who work at King Henry’s.

We offer:

· A community of considerate, creative and compassionate students and staff

· A highly diverse and inclusive school community, committed to our bursary provision

· An inspiring and enthusiastic team of colleagues across the teaching and support staff

· A commitment to staff CPD and developing people professionally through mentoring and coaching, using both internal and external expertise

· A diverse benefits package including:

o Competitive salary

o Competitive Pension Scheme

o Free onsite parking

o Free Sport Centre Membership

o Free lunches

What you can offer us:

· Excellent subject knowledge and a sincere enthusiasm for Design & Technology

· The ability to teach DT to highly able pupils across KS3 and KS4 (and potentially KS5)

· A talent for motivating and enthusing young learners to design, create and achieve their best

· Kindness and open-mindedness

· Intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm and a personal ethos of lifelong learning, particularly in design, innovation and emerging technologies

· Resilience and optimism; someone who is willing to go the extra mile in the busy life of the school

· The ability to build positive and constructive relationships with pupils, both as a teacher and form tutor, taking a proactive approach to the wellbeing and mental health of young people

· Strong team-working abilities and a keenness to contribute ideas, share practice and support the continued development of the department

· Commitment to the well-being and safeguarding of all students and staff

· Commitment to diversity, inclusion and anti-racism in the school community
