St Leonards School

From its beautiful campus in one of the most inspiring locations in the UK, St Leonards offers outstanding education for boys and girls, combining exceptional academic achievement with a happy, friendly atmosphere and a world of opportunity.

St Leonards stands alone as the only school in Scotland to focus 100% on the International Baccalaureate Diploma in the sixth form. Our pupils reap the rewards of our dedication to this internationally recognised qualification for life, consistently achieving impressive exam results and finding the door to university opened for them. No wonder we have been labelled ‘Scotland’s IB leader’ by The Scotsman newspaper (13 January 2010). St Leonards today draws the majority of its pupils from the surrounding area. But we are proud that the IB has also enabled a global outlook to flourish, with students from more than 20 different nationalities rubbing shoulders in the classroom. It’s a great way for our pupils to gain the modern, global outlook that is so important in today's world. At St Leonards the enriching spirit of the IB pervades everything we do and it’s not just in the sixth form that excellence abounds. Pupils in our junior section, St Leonards Junior School, benefit from a first class grounding that sets them up for life-long achievement and their experience has been further improved by a recently-completed £2.5m redevelopment. Year upon year our GCSE candidates also turn in outstanding results. Boarders of all ages settle in quickly to their modern, comfortable accommodation, with its country house feel. According to the latest Care Commission inspection report, St Leonards offers its boarding pupils, “an outstanding, Scottish, boarding experience,” with the quality of care and support and the quality of the environment rated as “excellent”. St Leonards is often described by parents of our pupils as unique. The school has its own safe, self-contained campus in charming St Andrews and our pupils feed off the inspirational buzz that comes from being at the heart of this famous university town. The friendly and welcoming campus is a superb blend of modern facilities and buildings of historic significance, all of this bounded by medieval walls. Idyllic beaches, historic landmarks and stunning countryside are just minutes away. Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee Airports are within easy reach and are approximately an hour’s flight from London. St Leonards students also thrive on the School’s strong links with St Andrews University, exemplified by the annual appointment of a St Leonards Associate Researcher, a point of contact in the University for the School’s pupils. In addition, our students have the use of the University library and regularly attend lectures. The range of co-curricular activities (including sports, art, drama and music) on offer is extensive and covers all that you would expect and more, ensuring that no matter where your child’s interests lay, they will be nurtured. St Leonards has a sector leading golf programme and pupils also have access – at an astonishingly low cost – to the most famous golf links in the world, positioned just a few hundred metres from the School. Regular Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, educational trips abroad, charity fund raising and community involvement help ensure that St Leonards pupils receive a holistic educational experience. St Leonards is an HMC School. For more information or to arrange a visit, please contact the School on 01334 472126.
