Moorlands School

Moorlands School is an IAPS school for boys and girls aged 2 to 11 in Leeds, West Yorkshire. We are conveniently located off the northern ring road, at Weetwood Lane, Leeds. It is a beautiful building within leafy grounds and has ample off road parking. Hidden away from the busy roads, yet easily accessible from Wetherby, Harrogate and Otley as well as all the suburbs of Leeds, we offer a perfect location for children to learn and play in a secure and picturesque setting.

Moorlands School was founded in 1898 in Headingley and is the oldest preparatory school in Leeds. In 1967 the school moved to its current site in the Foxhills. The school building had, at one time, been the family home of the Tetley family. In 2022 Moorlands became a full member of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust securing its long term future and bringing the benefits of membership of a large network of independent schools.

At Moorlands, we have a simple yet beautiful motto: ‘Intrepide!’, or ‘be brave’! In school we talk about how being brave or intrepid takes many forms. Being brave isn’t always a grand gesture; sometimes it simply means ‘having a go’, such as attempting that difficult question, offering an answer in class when you’re not quite sure or trying something new. This culture of intrepidness allows children to be brave and try new things in a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment.

Moorlands is a large enough school to have great facilities but, with small class sizes and an excellent pastoral system, we remain small enough for all of the children to be known to the staff and each other. Alongside a broad curriculum, every child in Moorlands belongs to one of the school Houses. The House system provides an opportunity for every child to shine beyond the classroom, through competitions and events such as photography, music, drama and sports and ensures every child has an opportunity to reach their potential.
