Reports to: Head of St Peter’s Nurseries

Hours: 40 hours per week, (52 weeks), worked across 4 weekdays

Salary: Competitive

Works with: Head of Junior School, COO, DOAMC

Location: On-site at St Peter’s School

Line manages: Nursery staff

Purpose of the Role

To deliver and ensure a high standard of learning, development, and care for children aged six months to three years. The Nursery Manager will manage the day-to-day activities of the setting, ensuring that the nursery is a safe, stimulating environment for children, staff, and visitors. The role includes developing strong partnerships with parents and carers to support children’s progress, managing staff effectively, and fulfilling all statutory and legal obligations.

Key ResponsibilitiesEducational Leadership & Curriculum

Develop and implement long-term, medium-term, and sessional curriculum plans aligned with EYFS.

Ensure the nursery provides a play-based curriculum that enables individual progress and prepares children for Reception.

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning, ensuring high-quality experiences for all children.

Organise and participate in the key person system, ensuring strong relationships and personalised learning.

Operational Management & Compliance

Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the nursery and delivery of a high-quality service.

Ensure the nursery meets Ofsted and ISI requirements at all times and maintain readiness for inspection.

Maintain accurate records, including attendance, accidents/incidents, safeguarding, and progress reports.

Maintain and update relevant policies

Ensure health and safety standards, hygiene practices, and emergency procedures are implemented consistently.

Staff Leadership & Development

Manage, supervise, and support nursery staff, ensuring effective deployment and performance.

Conduct staff appraisals, supervisions, and identify training needs.

Implement performance management systems, including induction, probation, and objective setting.

Assign designated officer roles and ensure staff understand and follow all policies and procedures.

Parent Partnerships & Community Engagement

Liaise closely with parents/carers, sharing information about the nursery and children’s progress.

Encourage parental involvement in their child’s learning and development.

Work with external professionals and local networks to benefit children and families.

Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

Contribute to and implement all early years policies and procedures.

Work with senior leadership to update and review the self-evaluation and improvement plan.

Act on recommendations from inspections and audits promptly.
