Director of Sport

  • Organisation: Farnborough Hill
  • Location: Hampshire
  • Tenure: Full-time
  • Closing Date: Friday 27 March 2026

A strong sports specialist with significant experience of teaching PE to girls throughout the school to GCSE and A level, and to lead and manage, as well as contribute to, the extensive co-curricular sports programme.

The PE Department is lively, forward looking and successful. It is based in the Alexander Sports Hall which was opened in 2005. This provides four Badminton courts, or one full-sized Netball court, as well as space for other indoor activities. Upstairs there is a fully equipped fitness room and an attractive teaching and meeting room where the department teaches GCSE PE (AQA) as well as A level PE, currently following the AQA specification. Outside there is the all-weather floodlit Alex Danson Hockey Pitch, which opened in 2015, four Netball courts, five Tennis courts (including one grass court) together with, Cricket pitches and Athletics facilities. The swimming pool is housed separately, next to the Sports Hall. Padel facilities will be installed in the coming year.

The aim of the PE Department is to promote a healthy lifestyle for all the pupils and to ensure that they all enjoy sport whether at a recreational or competitive level. We enjoy much success within the local area and many pupils compete for their county in their chosen sports and some go on to represent their country. There is a full programme of fixtures with school teams competing in local leagues and district, county and regional tournaments as well as National competitions. There has been a long tradition of running teams for all Year Groups in Hockey, Netball, Cross Country, Tennis, Swimming, Badminton and Athletics. We also offer Cricket as one of our main sports in the Summer Term and we are working closely with the Hampshire Cricket Board in hosting competitions and establishing links with local clubs and junior schools. In addition to fixtures and tournaments against other schools, the department run inter-Form and inter-House competitions in our major sports throughout the School year. Our annual Gym and Dance Display becomes more and more impressive each year and gives an opportunity for our non-games players to showcase their talents.

Sports tours are also organised by the PE Department at regular intervals, the most recent ones being the Junior Sports Tour to Holland in October 2024, and the Senior Sports Tour to South Africa in July 2025. The next tours scheduled are a Junior Sports Tour to Holland October 2026, and Senior Sports Tour to South Africa in July 2027.
