Radley College is looking for someone to teach c.14 pupils trumpet, two days a week during term time.

Radley College is looking for someone to teach c.14 pupils trumpet, plus run brass ensembles and assist with the coaching of brass players for other large ensembles.

Ideally to teach on Monday and Tuesday, or perhaps Thursday, term-time only c33 weeks.

As well as knowledge of teaching strategies, teaching repertoire and adaptability to the individual, the successful applicant will show an active interest and insight into current instrumental teaching, research and development, and in pursuing their own professional development as an instrumental teacher. Most importantly, they will be committed to ensuring every pupil makes progress and develops a love of music, whether they are a beginner or a musician with many years’ experience.

In general, the role of a Visiting Music Teacher at Radley is defined as:

  • the teaching, progress and development of each individual student within their specialism;
  • designing a curriculum for each pupil based upon a shared goal;
  • helping the pupil to achieve this by their professional help and expertise;
  • encouraging pupils to take advantage of further opportunities, whether in ensemble music, competitions and wider musical development at school, or through courses, ensembles and competitions externally;
  • being imaginative in ensuring that all boys are exposed to the experience of live performance;
  • keeping records of a pupil’s instrumental progress and up to date with all documentation;
  • providing clear and helpful reports to parents at the end of each term;
  • keeping abreast of current developments in instrumental teaching;
  • working with the Head of Section to attract future music scholars.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon Monday 14 September, but we reserve the right to consider applications as they arrive. Interviews will take place week commencing 28 September 2026.

Applicants will be given a guided tour of the Music school, have an interview with the Precentor and Head of Instrumental Music, and be required to teach a short 10 minute lesson and/or coach an ensemble.
