GAP STUDENTS
For the 2026-27 academic year
We have an exciting opportunity for Gap Students to join our enthusiastic, collaborative and hard-working team for the Academic Year 2026 - 27. We require three Gap Students at any given time across the year. You will be involved in all aspects of school life and will work with children ranging from Nursery age to Year 9. This is a busy and rewarding job that would be particularly beneficial for someone considering a career working with children and young people. This is not an essential goal for applicants though. We are looking for people who can use their own initiative and have a can-do attitude, the willingness to learn as well as the ability to work as part of a team.
At St Hugh’s we aim to give all our children the highest academic and pastoral support in a friendly environment in which each child can discover what they are good at and, therefore, thrive and gain confidence in themselves.
In June 2025, the Headmaster and Governors announced that St Hugh’s would be opening a Senior School in September 2026. It is a very exciting time to be joining St Hugh’s.
We offer excellent benefits, including a competitive salary, an outstanding working environment in our beautiful estate with easy access to transport links, and being part of our vibrant and supportive community.
To apply, please complete and return the gap student application form which can be found on https://www.st-hughs.co.uk/news/staff-vacancies to recruitment@st-hughs.co.uk. This should include a supporting statement outlining the extent to which you meet our requirements as set out in the job description and person specification, and details of two referees (either employers or school leaders). Please indicate on your application form the terms that you are available to work. Candidates keen to join us for two or three terms might be looked upon most favourably, but please still apply if you are only interested in one term. References may be taken up before interview. Online social media checks will be completed on shortlisted candidates prior to interview as part of the KCSIE guidance. Please note we are unable to offer accommodation at school for these roles.
Full details of our staff benefits and recruitment procedures can be found on our School recruitment page at https://www.st-hughs.co.uk/news/staff-vacancies
Applications will be considered on receipt and should arrive no later than midday on Thursday 5th February 2026. Interviews will take place in the morning on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th February 2026. We reserve the right to interview at any point during the recruitment process so early applications are encouraged.
The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and all appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (including a check against the Children’s Barred List), and other pre-employment screening including a check on the Secretary of State list of prohibited staff.
