An opening has arisen for the position of Director of Drama at St Catherine's School from September 2026.
St Catherine’s seeks to appoint a full-time well‑qualified, enthusiastic and energetic Director of Drama to lead our thriving and ambitious Drama Department from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional practitioner to join a lively, supportive and highly successful department where high standards, creativity and a genuine love of Drama are at the heart of everything we do. Drama is a valued and vibrant part of school life, taught throughout the Senior School to GCSE, AS and A Level, and is enriched by an extensive co-curricular programme of school productions and pupil-led performances.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be:
- An inspiring classroom teacher with a passion for Drama and a strong track record of teaching and directing productions.
- An excellent communicator, able to organise, motivate and lead colleagues, and work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team.
- A proactive and committed leader with the skills and desire to promote Drama across the School, nurture talent and contribute fully to the wider team of Heads of Department.
- A strong administrator with confident ICT skills and the ability to manage budgets, resources and departmental processes efficiently.
This role is suitable for an experienced Director of Drama or an ambitious teacher seeking their first leadership position.
Key Responsibilities will include (but please note the list is not exhaustive):
- Ensure the safeguarding of pupils at all times and remain up to date with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
- Lead outstanding teaching and learning, enabling every pupil to reach their full potential.
- Keep abreast of developments in the National Curriculum, GCSE and A Level specifications.
- Oversee all internal and external examination processes.
- Observe teaching, monitor marking and support colleagues’ professional development.
- Appraise departmental staff in line with School policy.
- Attend Parents’ Evenings, Open Days and respond to parental queries.
- Lead weekly departmental meetings and attend Heads of Department meetings.
- Support teacher induction and contribute to ITT/ECT programmes.
- Organise departmental educational visits and trips.
- Advise the Senior Leadership Team and Head on all matters relating to Drama.
- Contribute to the wider co-curricular life of the School.
