St Catherine's School seeks to appoint a Post-Graduate Assistant Teacher (PGAT) to join our Teaching Staff and Resident Staff Team from September 2026 to July 2027 on a full time, fixed term contract.

This is an exciting opportunity to join St Catherine’s at a time of continued development and modernisation. The PGAT role offers graduates an invaluable insight into school life and the teaching profession, alongside meaningful involvement in the academic, pastoral and co‑curricular life of a thriving boarding school with both Senior and Prep School phases.

The Role

PGATs are resident members of staff, living in school accommodation and forming an integral part of the Boarding Team. The role is designed to provide broad experience across school operations and departments, supporting the day‑to‑day running of the Senior and Prep Schools.

While all subject backgrounds will be considered, applicants must be willing and able to contribute positively to the sports programme. PGATs also support boarding duties and play an important role in the pastoral life of the school.

This position is particularly well suited to graduates considering a future career in teaching, youth work, coaching, or pastoral care.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will be:

  • An enthusiastic, responsible and proactive graduate
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a wider staff team
  • Confident in working with both pupils and colleagues
  • Willing to make a positive contribution to the whole school community
  • Passionate about, and confident in contributing to, sport and extra‑curricular activities
  • Comfortable maintaining a calm and confident presence whilst on duty in a boarding house

Some positions may be restricted to female applicants due to the requirement for overnight, one‑to‑one boarding supervision in accordance with safeguarding needs.

How to Apply

Applications should be completed via My New Term by 10.00am on Monday 27 April, and should include:

  • A completed My New Term Application Form (available via the School website)
  • A curriculum vitae, if you wish, to support your application

Further details and the application link can be found at:
https://www.stcatherines.info/welcome/job-opportunities

Please note that applications will be assessed on receipt, and interviews may take place at any stage of the process. Early applications are strongly encouraged.

St Catherine’s is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and an enhanced DBS and barred list check. The School is an equal opportunities employer.
