Brighton College Prep Handcross is seeking to appoint an exceptional Key Stage 1 Teacher from September 2026 (or Jan 2027 for the right candidate)
- To ensure a creative, purposeful and engaging curriculum that enables the delivery of high-quality provision in all curricular and extracurricular activities
- To plan interesting, imaginative and stimulating lessons for our pupils, including visits and trips, leading to effective teaching and learning
- To plan tasks for whole class, individual and group work, which set appropriate and challenging expectations for pupils’ learning, motivation and presentation of work
- To provide clear structure for lessons, and for sequences of lessons, in the short, medium and longer term, which maintain pace, motivation and challenge
- To plan teaching to achieve progression in pupils’ learning through identifying clear teaching objectives and content, appropriate to the pupils and subject matter
- To plan effectively to ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to meet their potential, taking account of the needs of those who may be underachieving through to most able, making use of relevant information and specialist help where available
- To maintain high expectations for pupil behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching and positive, productive relationships
- To celebrate pupils’ work through displays in both the classroom and around the school, regularly update displays and contribute to social media
- To maintain high levels of presentation and communication with parents
- To be ready and enthusiastically available to parents, displaying approachability and professionalism at all times
- To continually assess and record progress, using this to inform and plan future learning for every individual
- To ensure that the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum are met and to remain abreast and up to date with current developments
- To contribute to the rich and varied extra-curricular programme
- To be a reflective practitioner, critically evaluating your own teaching for ongoing effectiveness and improvement; committing to on-going personal and professional development, disseminating to other staff where appropriate
- To comply with, and adhere to, agreed whole school policies and the ethos of the school and contribute to their development
- To be responsible for the pastoral care of the pupils in your care and share in the corporate responsibility of the pastoral care, well-being and discipline of all pupils at the school
- To establish a safe environment that supports learning and where pupils feel secure and confident
- To attend parent consultation evenings and write reports summarising children’s progress and setting targets for future learning
- To attend and support whole-school functions, including occasional weekend events.
