Forest School is a co-educational day school located in the heart of Waltham Forest, catering to students aged 4 to 18. We are seeking to appoint a Graduate Library Trainee to assist in both our Primary and Secondary school libraries. This fixed-term position, running from late August 2026 to August 2027, is ideal for individuals seeking work experience prior to undertaking a postgraduate course in Librarianship or to provide school library experience for library graduates.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the day-to-day operations of the library,

Staffing the library desk (checking books out to students, processing returns, textbook issue and shelving)

Supervising students during breaks and lunchtimes

Creating seasonal displays.

Completing a self-directed project. This could take the form of:

Running a library club or book group,

Re-developing and improving elements of the library collection,

Arranging author visits or other library events for the benefit of students.

These activities will form part of a comprehensive training program designed to prepare you for your future studies and a career in librarianship or provide school library experience for library graduates.

Working Hours:

The position operates on a shared rota covering library open hours (7:30 am to 6:00 pm) with a 30-minute lunch break, Monday to Friday, during school term time. A hot meal is provided on working days.

Accommodation may be provided, subject to availability.
