Bury Grammar School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, well‑qualified Teacher of Biology to join our vibrant and highly successful Science Faculty from September 2026. We would welcome full‑time, part‑time, or job‑share applications.

This is an excellent opportunity for both Early Career Teachers and experienced practitioners who are passionate about inspiring pupils through high‑quality Biology teaching.

The Department

Science at Bury Grammar School is thriving, well‑resourced and academically ambitious. Each of our three disciplines; Biology, Chemistry and Physics, are taught separately from Key Stage 3 through to A Level. We find this enables students to develop deep subject knowledge and a strong scientific mindset.

The Biology Department benefits from well-equipped classrooms, excellent practical resources and access to dedicated preparation areas that support high quality teaching and learning. The department is staffed by a dynamic and collaborative team of Biology specialists, who work together to deliver a developed curriculum with clear progression pathways.

Pupil engagement in Biology is consistently high, with strong outcomes at both GCSE and A Level. The department is further supported by its own dedicated Science Technician, ensuring smooth delivery of experiments and an efficient, organised working environment for both staff and pupils.

The Role

The successful candidate will:

· Teach Biology from Key Stage 3, up to A-level.

· Deliver high‑quality, engaging and well‑structured lessons.

· Assess, monitor and report on pupil progress.

· Contribute to the ongoing development of the Biology curriculum.

· Support pupils’ academic progress and wider personal development.

· Participate actively in the wider life of Bury Grammar School, including enrichment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a teacher who:

· Holds a relevant Biology‑based degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

· Has strong subject knowledge and confidence teaching Biology at Key Stage 3, 4 & 5.

· Is reflective, well‑organised and committed to professional growth.

· Has strong organisational skills, and the ability to consistently meet deadlines.

· Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and enjoys working as part of a collaborative team.

· Is committed to safeguarding, inclusion, and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
