Bury Grammar School is seeking to appoint an outstanding Teacher of Mathematics from September 2026 on a full time permanent basis to join our committed, dynamic and highly successful Mathematics Department. This position is suitable for both Early Career Teachers and experienced practitioners.

We are looking for an inspiring, reflective and enthusiastic teacher with excellent subject knowledge, strong pedagogical skills, and a passion for helping pupils achieve their full potential.

The Mathematics Faculty

The Mathematics Faculty at Bury Grammar School is a highly successful area of the school that consistently produces outstanding external examination results at both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5.

The faculty consists of and a team of experienced and talented mathematics teachers. It regularly produces Oxbridge students and students who go on to attend competitive courses at the other prestigious universities.

In order to support pupils on the journey towards this, the faculty runs advanced mathematics workshops for all students, starting with Year 7s, through to Oxbridge preparation for Sixth Formers, stimulating interest in mathematical concepts outside of the curriculum.

At both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, the department teaches Edexcel specifications, with pupils currently studying for the IGCSE in Years 9 to 11 and Further Mathematics and/or Mathematics A Level during Years 12 and 13.

Year 11 pupils are also routinely given the opportunity to study for an extra mathematics qualification, alongside their GCSE studies, in order to further prepare them for A Level study. Pupils of all ages are also regularly entered for both local and national competitions and have a healthy record of success in these areas.

The Role

The successful candidate will:

Teach Mathematics across Key Stages 3 to 5, delivering high‑quality, engaging and well‑structured lessons.

Assess, monitor and report on pupil progress, ensuring all learners are challenged and supported appropriately.

Contribute to curriculum development and departmental enrichment initiatives.

Support pupils’ academic and personal development and undertake Form Tutor responsibilities where required.

Participate fully in the broader life of the school, including events, trips and extracurricular activities.

Holds a relevant degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Demonstrates strong subject knowledge and excellent pedagogical practice

Has excellent communication skills and a positive, collaborative approach to working with colleagues.

Is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
