Bury Grammar School is seeking to appoint an inspiring and well‑qualified Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages to join our successful and supportive Languages faculty on a 1‑year Fixed Term Contract from Easter 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for both Early Career Teachers and experienced practitioners. We are looking for a passionate linguist committed to maintaining the high academic standards for which Bury Grammar School is renowned, through the delivery of exceptional teaching across a range of languages. The successful candidate will ideally teach French and German at Key Stage 3, and one of French, Spanish or German up to GCSE. There is the option to teach at A Level if desired; however, this is not an essential criterion for this role.
The Department
Modern Foreign Languages is a thriving and popular area of the curriculum at Bury Grammar School, with pupils benefitting from dynamic teaching, a rich cultural programme, and consistently strong examination results.
The Role
The successful candidate will:
Ideally teach French and German at Key Stage 3, delivering engaging, well‑planned lessons that motivate, challenge and inspire pupils.
Teach one of French, Spanish or German at GCSE level.
Assess, monitor and report on pupil progress, ensuring high standards of learning and achievement.
Contribute to continued curriculum development within the Languages Faculty.
Support pupils’ academic progress and personal development.
Play an active role in the wider life of Bury Grammar School, including extracurricular and enrichment opportunities e.g. clubs, trips, exchanges.
There is the opportunity to teach up to A-Level if desired; however, this is not an essential criterion for the vacancy.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a teacher who:
Holds a relevant honours degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Has strong linguistic knowledge in French and German.
Is reflective, well‑organised and committed to continuous professional development.
Can build positive, supportive relationships with pupils and inspire a passion for languages.
Demonstrates excellent communication skills and enjoys working as part of a collaborative team.
Is committed to safeguarding, inclusion and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
