Teacher of Food, Textiles & Design and Technology

We are seeking a well-qualified and versatile teacher to contribute to the teaching of food & nutrition, textiles and design and technology.

The core focus of this role will be in the food and textiles department, and the successful candidate will also be asked to contribute to D&T teaching at key stage 3. Food, textiles and D&T are taught to all girls in years 7 and 8 and then become options from year 9. Both departments have well-resourced, specialist facilities, experienced heads of department and technician support.

In food and textiles students are encouraged to develop their knowledge, originality and creativity by completing practical projects. They practise lifelong skills such as preparing and cooking a range of sweet and savoury dishes, learning to use a sewing machine and making a simple garment. Food preparation and nutrition is offered as a GCSE option. In D&T students learn basic manufacturing skills using hand tools and machines, progressing to computer-aided design and manufacture as in industry. They evaluate designs, test products and accept that not getting things right first-time is part of learning. D&T is available as a GCSE (resistant materials) and A-level (product design) option for students.
