Dame Allan's Schools
Dame Allan’s Schools were founded in 1705 by Dame Eleanor Allan, the daughter of a city goldsmith and the widow of a wealthy tobacco merchant, to provide a ‘proper’ education for 40 poor boys and 20 poor girls in the city parishes of St Nicholas and St John.
These days Dame Allan’s provides a first rate education for young people from all cultures and backgrounds within a supportive environment informed by the Schools’ Christian foundation and traditions, where pupils are encouraged to make the best use of their many and varied abilities.
We are the only school in Newcastle following the pioneering Diamond Structure: a co-educational Junior School, single-sex Senior Schools, and a co-educational Sixth Form. This education system combines the academic benefits of single sex education with the social advantages of co-education.
